The Cars and the Track.

The cars that will be raced have been purposely designed and purchased for the club.  The chassis, which is made of lazer cut spring steel, is bought complete.  The motor, axles, guides and wheels are then added.  The only soldering involved is to add the lead wires and pinion (drive gear) to the motor.  Assembly is therefore simple and easy.

The car bodies are made from 20 thou  clear lexan plastic which is then spray painted in acrylic paint on the inside. The body is then pinned to the chassis.

The tyres are either thin super grip hard rubber which work well on the lightly 'gooped' track surface or soft rubber BSCRA tyres.  (Goop is a lightly sticky substance that is sprayed onto the track to assist adhesion).  The tyes / track surface provide an ideal level of speed where a novice would not feel intimidated, but an experienced racer would enjoy.  Have a look at the clip and see for yourself.

THE TRACK
The track is 105 ft long and as been made by master track builder Lee Parsons over the summer of 2015 in the clubroom.  Its design sprung out of the collective thoughts of Andy, Lee, Steve Sweetman and Graham Woodward and has already been recognised for its efficient use of space in a small room.  It has been made out of very high grade MDF which was cut using advanced computer technology by a company in Sussex.  It is powered by 2 x 40 amp  power supplies boosted by two very large capacitors.  It is managed by a computerised race control programme running the Track Mate race control system.  Lee has stated it is the best track he has ever built and early testing has confirmed it is one of the most challenging tracks of this type in the country.
